Choose and verify the direction of a DataCite relationship before depositing
metadata.

Working instructions
Write a plain-language statement from the perspective of the object being
deposited. Select a relation from your repository’s supported DataCite schema
version. Validate identifier type, destination and resource identity. Read the
resulting statement back in both directions.

Hypothetical worked case
A hypothetical supplement points to its main article. Starting from the
supplement, IsSupplementTo expresses its relationship to the article. Starting
from the article would require the inverse direction. Verify which record you
are editing before saving.

Decision and follow-up
Approve only when the relation reads correctly from the deposited object to the
target and the target identifier resolves to the intended resource. Record
missing inverse links as follow-up for the party controlling the other record.
