Reconcile aggregate counts for a simple two-arm parallel randomized trial. Use one prespecified outcome and time point for the analysis counts. The intervention and analysis branches both start from allocation; they are not a serial subtraction. All default values are fictional.

Calculation results

All six arithmetic checks balance. Review reasons and participant identity separately.

Assumptions and limits

For each stage, gap = upstream count − sum of mutually exclusive downstream categories. Zero means arithmetic balance only; a negative gap means excess accounting, and a positive gap means unexplained participants. This cannot detect double-counted people, prove eligibility, validate exclusions, or decide the appropriate analysis population. Include participants in the allocated arm even if treatment was not received when describing allocation. Retain reasons and source records. Not for crossover, cluster-level flow, multi-arm or nonrandomized designs without adapting the structure.
